Class Descriptions
Pre Ballet and Tap (3 to 4) – Pre Ballet and Tap is a one hour combination class divided into a half hour ballet class and a half hour tap class focusing on ballet and tap fundamentals for toddlers. This combination class for preschool age children concentrates on the development of creative movement, coordination, and the teachings of basic ballet and tap techniques suitable for their age and ability level.
Ballet (ages 5 and up) – A classical dance form characterized by grace and precision of movement.
Tap (ages 5 and up) – A style of dance using precise rhythmic patterns of foot movement.
Jazz (ages 5 and up)– A modern style of dance characterized by high power and energy; a form of personal expression created and sustained through improvisation.
Hip Hop (ages 5 and up) – Rhythmic movements using prearranged or improvised steps and gestures, inspired by the popular culture.
Modern/Lyrical (ages 8 and up)– A style of theatrical dance that extends the limitations of classical ballet and favors movement deriving from the expression of inner feeling.
Clogging (ages 8 and up)- A dance performed by emphasizing the downbeat of music by enthusiastic footwork and heavy stamping.
Class Placement
LEVEL I – For students with little or no experience. Students start in these classes and remain here until a degree of competency is reached with the curriculum taught at this level. For many students, this process takes more than one year.
LEVEL II – These classes assume a student’s ability to correctly execute material learned in Level I working for speed and complexity as well as proper technique.
LEVEL III – These classes are quite difficult, requiring both technical ability and strength. They are designed for students with many years of training that take multiple classes per week.
LEVEL IV – Advanced classes. Level IV classes are for students that have mastered all previous levels and focuses on perfecting technique through intensive conditioning.
