Class Descriptions
Tap and Ballet Combo (3 to 6) – Pre Ballet and Tap is a one hour combination class divided into a half hour ballet class and a half hour tap class focusing on ballet and tap fundamentals for toddlers. This combination class for preschool age children concentrates on the development of creative movement, coordination, and the teachings of basic ballet and tap techniques suitable for their age and ability level.
Jazz and Hip Hop Combo (ages 5-6) - A one hour combination class divided into a half hour jazz and a half hour hip hop focusing on beginner movements for both dance styles. This combination class concentrates on preparing the body for jazz technique and the basic concepts of hip hop such as musicality.
Ballet (ages 7 and up) – A classical dance form characterized by grace and precision of movement.
Tap (ages 7 and up) – A style of dance using precise rhythmic patterns of foot movement.
Jazz (ages 7 and up)– A modern style of dance characterized by high power and energy; a form of personal expression created and sustained through improvisation.
Hip Hop (ages 7 and up) – Rhythmic movements using prearranged or improvised steps and gestures, inspired by the popular culture.
Contemporary (ages 7 and up)– A style of theatrical dance that extends the limitations of classical ballet and favors movement deriving from the expression of inner feeling.
Class Placement
BEGINNER – For students with little or no experience. Students start in these classes and remain here until a degree of competency is reached with the curriculum taught at this level. For many students, this process takes more than one year.
INTERMEDIATE – These classes assume a student’s ability to correctly execute material learned in a beginner class working for speed and complexity as well as proper technique.
ADVANCED – These classes are quite difficult, requiring both technical ability and strength. They are designed for students with many years of training that take multiple classes per week.
